Appreciating Your Body After Having A Baby

Posted by Wink Admin on

Having a baby is one of the most life-changing experiences that a woman can have. But after carrying your baby for nine months, you go through many physical changes that can make it a challenge to accept your body for what it looks like right now. This is the reason why so many celebrities are rushing to regain their pre-baby figure mere weeks after having a baby. Take actress and entrepreneur Jessica Alba, who was back in the gym two weeks after giving birth to her daughter. More recently, Blake Lively shared how she lost 61 lbs. after giving birth to her daughter, saying that it took her 14 months to achieve her body goals.

But for regular folks without access to a personal trainer or dietitian, losing the baby weight and regaining body confidence can be challenging hurdles. Because society plays a role in how we view our bodies, it can be hard to love yourself after having a baby. But by finding ways to feel better and enhancing your current body shape, you can learn to love your body after giving birth to your little one. Here’s how to appreciate and feel better about your body after having a baby.

Get a mini makeover

When was the last time you had your hair colored? Do you remember the last time you had a manicure? Now would be the time to pamper yourself and get a mini makeover. Treating yourself can emotionally benefit you and lift your spirits, which can make you appreciate the body that you have right now. Stick to making small changes such as painting your nails a different color or dyeing your hair a shade darker or lighter than usual. Avoid making drastic changes such as getting a new hairstyle as you’ll never know how it can turn out.

Wear clothes that fit your current shape

Instead of struggling to fit into your pre-baby clothes or wearing shapeless outfits, choose clothes that fit your current shape. Wear a belly band or shapewear underneath your clothes to smooth out bumps and to enhance your look. Consider getting a new pair of jeans that can go with anything from casual shirts to dressy blouses. Having something new that fits well can give you a boost and make you feel happier about your body.

Take care of yourself

You may be busy taking care of your newborn, but that’s no reason to stop taking care of yourself. Get some exercise and head outdoors. Be well groomed even if you’re just going to the convenience store to buy a carton of juice. If you’re breastfeeding, make sure to eat nutritious foods that will benefit you and your baby. Get enough rest and ask for help taking care of the baby—even new moms need to take a break every now and then. Also, never underestimate the power of makeup. Having glowing skin, well-groomed brows, and a touch of color on the cheeks and lips can do wonders for your self-confidence.

You’ve just been through one of the most amazing experiences of your life, and now, it’s time to celebrate your body just the way it is. Take some time to care for yourself and appreciate your post-baby body. Lastly, be kind to yourself. It takes time to achieve body goals, and while you’re working on your fitness, make sure to tend to your emotional needs by loving yourself—you deserve it!
